Land Between
the Lakes -- maintained by
the US Forest Service this huge non-commercial recreational
area which is located between Kentucky ( on the Tennessee
river) and Barkley (on the Cumberland river) Lakes , offers
history such as the working historic farm,
The Homeplace 1850, which shows life as
it was in the area in the 1850's. Large Bison and Elk herds
and other wildlife can be seen up close, So if boating,
hiking, cycling, history, camping and just being out in
nature, then you for sure what to visit here.
Big Singing
is an annual event held in
Benton, KY every 4th Sunday in May at the Marshall County
courthouse.....songs are sung in Southern harmony style with
shaped notes.....and has been held since 1884 when it was
organized by James Lemon and newspaper editor of the local
Benton newspaper....a big event that is growing bigger every
year.
Murray
State University is
located in Murray, KY and is nationally known for its great
student environment and reputation for high academic
standards.
Columbus-Belmont State Park .....located
on the Mississippi River at Columbus, KY this is the site of
a Civil War battle, known for the large chain that was
strung across the river to Belmont, MO by the Confederates
to keep the Yankees from using the river, you can see the
chain, cannons, hospital, or picnic right on the bluff in
one of the most beautiful settings you will ever see.
Kentucky Bend in Fulton County is a most
unique geographic area......in the middle of the New
Madrid earthquake fault....you have to leave Kentucky, go to
Tennessee and then drive back to Kentucky to see it! On the
Mississippi river, separated from the mainland of Fulton
County by the river, here you can hear the river boats going
up and down the river , drive on the levee , and see the
civil war battle site known as Island # 10...when you are
here, you are just minutes from the famous fishing and
recreational area known as Reelfoot Lake.
Paducah, KY....the
largest town in the area located on I-24 , with shopping
malls, antiques, great dining and nice motels...much
history and the great beautiful murals painted on the large
floodwall downtown.
The Fancy Farm Picnic held every August in Fancy
Farm, KY just down the road from Mayfield, KY (home of the
Wooldridge Monuments) is nationally known for its Bar B Q
and the political speaking from not only local politicians
but those from across the nation running for the Senate, for
Congress and President of the United States...if you like to
eat and hear politicians, then you want to see this!
